The Brotographer Presents: FOCUS | EP.02 – Brute Force Sandbags

FOCUS | Episode 2 – Brute Force Sandbags

Episode 2 of my FOCUS series of videos brings us over to the Central Coast in California. Hundreds of miles away from where we filmed episode 1, this video was shot in Cayucos, California, in San Luis Obispo County. My parents have a house over on the Central Coast, so my wife and kids head over there every once in a while to get some rest and relaxation. Much quieter than the beaches of Los Angeles and Southern California, the Central Coast offers much of the same beautiful beaches without the people or traffic.

My wife, if you haven’t read any posts in our lifestyle section, has been in the fitness industry for about a decade, and loves fitness. We took the opportunity at the coast to get her a beach workout in, and what better place than the flat, sandy beach in Cayucous.

We also took the opportunity to test out some gear from Brute Force. Brute Force is a company based out of Colorado who makes awesome sandbag workout bags. These bags are an all around great workout, as you can do a variety of exercises with them. They have different kinds of sandbags, and also carry other accessories and fitness apparel. The owners are awesome, and you should definitely go check them out if you’re in the market for some new workout gear.

Lastly, to the content creation! I also took the opportunity to test out some gear that I’ve been meaning to get to. The Feiyu MG V2 gimbal has been very intriguing to me. I was very curious about how it would compare to a much larger gimbal like the Ronin-M from DJI. I’ll have a full review of it soon. But for what it is, it did very well. I mounted the Sony A6300 and the Zeiss Batis 25mm to it for the shoot. The gimbal was nice and smooth, and the autofocus on the Batis lens worked well with the A6300 to track the subject fairly nicely. I shot the entire sequence in 1080p at 120fps, to give me the option of slowing it down in post. Everything performed flawlessly.
