In the creative fields, light is key. Whether you hang your hat in photography or videography, or possibly both, the use of light matter much more than the gear that you’re using. That new camera may get you 4K or a high frame rate, but it can’t light your scene. Good lighting can convey so much more to your viewer than dynamic range can. While “light is light” is true for the most part, certain lights offer features that others don’t, and can make your shooting that much easier.

I’ve had the pleasure of using and reviewing the Kinotehnik Practilite 602 Bi-color LED Fresnel lights for a few months. These COB LED lights are compact, light, powerful, bi-color, have a Profoto mount for modifiers, and are just plain fantastic.

I love LED lights. Compared to my old incandescent bulbs they are a fraction of their size. Because of this they are much easier to transport and setup. They also are not quite cool compared to traditional bulbs. I love this because of the fact that I sweat a lot. They also can be battery powered, and consume less energy. The only downside is that they are more expensive. While price can be one of the biggest reasons to not purchase a certain piece of equipment, I truly believe that it is better to wait and save more in order to purchase a much better piece of equipment.

I hope you learn something about the Practilite 602 lights in the following video. Don’t forget to SUBSCRIBE to our YouTube channel as well, where we are releasing a lot of new content.

  • They have a manual quick draw beam angle control of 15-80 degrees enables increased throw distances.
  • They have a tunable color temperature from 3000K to 6000K, making matching any light a breeze, ridding your production of that nasty mixed lighting.
  • They have a very high CRI of .96. Other bright LED’s have a CRI of only 90-95.
  • They are flicker free, allowing for perfectly lit slow motion shots.
  • The Practilite 602’s are 100-240 VAC, 12-28 VDC, and can be operated from V-mount and Anton Bauer batteries
  • They have a boost mode 140% for increased light output. The color temperature will be set to 4500K in boost mode though, which I am perfectly fine with.
  • The Practilite 602 attaches to any standard 5/8″ (16 mm) stud.

  • Clean beam output without any visible artifacts due to state of the art COB technology. Because of its COB technology, the Practilite 602 does not suffer from mini shadows like other LED panels with individual LED’s spread throughout the panel. This gives the Practilite 602 the appearance of a single light source.
  • You can easily control up to 6 fixtures via effortless LE Bluetooth connection within 30 feet range. The app is a pleasure to use.
  • Universal umbrella mount built-in and barn doors included. Including the barn doors was a great touch. They are easily mountable, and provide great spill protection when you need it.
